Week 5 | Subash Bhandari | Dr. Ariel Marciscano
I spent this week reviewing some papers related to the combinatorial effects of radiation and immunotherapy for cancer treatment.
On Friday, I got to observe craniotomy performed by Dr. Rohan Ramakrishna. The patient had a glioblastoma that was pressing against one of his optical nerve sheath. Usually these conditions are treated primarily with a surgical resection of the tumor. Once the tumor is removed, the surgical bed is irradiated using radiation therapy in order to prevent any possible microscopic cancer cells from growing back.
